The Icelandic coach Patrekur Jóhannesson stops as national coach of Austria with immediate effect.

The Austrian Handball Federation, ÖHB, has just released a press release with the news of the departure of the national coach Patrekur Jóhannesson.

Among other things they write the following:

"Following discussions between ÖHB President Gerhard Hofbauer, ÖHB Sport Director Patrick Fölser and the head coach of the Austrian national team, Patrekur Jóhannesson, the parties have agreed on a premature termination of the contract, which runs until 2020. The ÖHB is now looking for a new head coach, who will lead the national team at the European Championship 2020 on home soil."

46-year-old Jóhannesson became head coach of Austria in 2011. He has previously been the head coach of German TV Emsdetten and the Icelandic clubs Stjarnan, Valur, Haukar and Selfoss. From next season he becomes head coach of the Danish champion Skjern Håndbold.
