SL Benfica has signed a contract with Jernej Papez with immediate effect.

The 25-year-old Slovenian right back Jernej Papez leaves the French league club Saran Handball and joins the Portuguese top club SL Benfica on a contract for the rest of the season to replace the injured Serbian right back Stefan Terzic.

"I'm happy to have signed with a club as big as this. I am very grateful to everyone for having signed. I start training today and I'm ready to help the team to win. Benfica is a great institution and its supporters are fantastic, I hope they continue to help us achieve great things," the new Benfica player stated.

Previously Jernej Papez has played in RK Trimo Trebnje and RK Gorenje Velenje in Slovenia - where he shone as the top scorer in the Slovenian league with 172 goals.

This season he scored 20 goals in the 13 games and now comes to reinforce the young and competitive working group led by Mariano Ortega.
