Updated: Željko Babić becomes head coach of RK Gorenje Velenje.

The Slovenian top club RK Gorenje Velenje has now brief confirmed the signing of the Croatian coach Željko Babić on their Twitter account. The former Croatian national coach has signed a 2-year contract from next season to the summer of 2019.

 

According to the Slovenian website Siol.net the Croatian coach Željko Babić is favorite to become head coach of RK Gorenje Velenje.

After the terrible beginning of this season for the Slovenian top club RK Gorenje Velenje, where the management reacted and sacked the head coach Marko Šibila and hired the legend of the club Borut Plaskan as interim solution for the rest of the season, the ambitious Slovenian club has been looking for a long-lasting solution.

According to the Slovenian website Siol.net the management of RK Gorenje Velenje are currently in the final negotiations with the Croatian coach Željko Babić, who is the favorite for the job. After Željko Babić was sacked as Croatian national coach after the World Championship in France in January, he has been unemployed.

44-year-old Željko Babić was before he became head coach of the Croatian national team for two years head coach of the Belarusian champions HC Meshkov Brest.
